On Real, my inspiration was taken from the lyrics. The video represents the different parts of ourselves that contribute to our decisions and actions. The way they work (hence the workman outfits) within our minds to express our true selves and how sometimes, that internal conflict creates chaos. There is also the subconscious and the imagination - which sometimes create stories, scenes and alternate realities, within which our subconscious selves interact with the projection of those that we love. Sometimes this leaves us confused and not understanding what is real and what is not real. As my directorial debut, it was an exciting journey and one that I am proud to have worked on with an amazing team for an amazing artist.
On Crown of Thorns, the video concept was birthed from the rich sound and emotion the track has. With its’ warm gospel sound, we had no option but to film in a church. Both myself and Tee have strong roots within church and we wanted to pay homage to how church is like our home. This is why the outfits chosen are cosy and comfy, casual and light - because that is how home feels. We decided to break the video up with excerpts from his life showing the things that have made him who he is today, the previous performances, the fun family times - all feed and contribute to who he is.
